Montgomery’s Cheddar is one of only 3 recognised producers of Artisan Somerset Cheddar by Slow Food. It’s been made on Manor Farm in North Cadbury for over 3 generations, since the Montgomery family moved down from Scotland in the early 20th century.
When Jamie Montgomery took over the family business in the mid-nineties, the market for clothbound Cheddar was dominated by cheese with a bright, acidic, sharp flavour set in a soft, creamy paste which was well-suited to supermarket cheese counters. Determined to makes something different, he set out to make a firmer cheese with more flavour complexity. Twenty years later, Montgomery’s Cheddar is the best selling Cheddar at Neal’s Yard Dairy.
Meaty and rich with savoury/sweet notes. Reminiscent of a traditional Sunday roast.
